GINA Best Data Layer
The Best Data Layer (BDL) is a publically available imagery base layer distributed as a Web Mapping Service (WMS) by the University of Alaska Fairbanks - Geographic Information Network of Alaska (GINA). The service provides raster data of the 'best available' current satellite and aerial imagery for the state of Alaska to GIS clients. The layer is a hierarchical dataset of the recent low, medium and high resolution scenes with scale dependent visibility. These scenes originate from numerous contributors and collection seasons. This dataset is periodically updated as more imagery is acquired.
The BDL is available in a variety of formats including: WMS, ArcGIS Layer files, KML, Open Layers tile formats and others. GINA BDL support includes common coordinate systems used in Alaska including: WGS 1984, NAD 1983 Alaska Albers, NAD 1983 UTM zones 1N – 9N, NAD 1983 Alaska State Plane, Web Mercator, Polar Stereographic and others.
